Merit Selection

Most WA government agencies work under the Public Sector Standards in Human Resource Management. The recruitment, selection and appointment process must be open and competitive and result in decisions that are transparent and capable of review. A proper assessment must be made to match an applicant's skills, knowledge and abilities with the requirements of the job and the objectives of the agency, which may include actively recruiting from diversity groups.

A wide range of permanent and fixed term (contract) positions are available in the WA public sector, including scientists, doctors, park rangers, geologists, teachers, nurses, policy officers, research assistants and human resource consultants to name a few. Most positions have been through a classification process, which allocates them a 'level'. Salaries are paid according to this level, however, when you search jobs.wa.gov.au it's often easiest to search by salary rather than level.
